Simonton was first settled in the 1840s by two brothers, James and Theophilus Simonton. They raised cotton on 4000 acres. [5][6] The year 1850 is officially designated as the founding year for the Simonton since the 1850 US Census showed the two brothers, their mother, Mary, and Theophilus's wife and two sons residing on the property. Around 1888, the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad was built nearby. With the tracks came immigrants, and the opportunity to ship the area's farm produce to other parts of the country. In subsequent years, Simonton developed into a robust agricultural community. Gradually by 1957, through the subdivision development of Valley Lodge, Simonton was changing from a small town to a quiet crossroads community.[24] In 1979, the community incorporated as the City of Simonton.
