The League City area was first occupied by Native Americans as early as 8000 to 9000 BCE. In more recent times, the first Anglo to own property in the area was Miguel Muldoon, an Irish Catholic priest and friend of Stephen F. Austin. Shortly afterward, the fertile grasslands of the area began to beckon other settlers, including J. C. League. He bought the land from Miguel Muldoon, and after the Galveston, Houston, and Henderson Railroad was established, he laid out the League City townsite along this railroad. Today, League City has beautiful 19th-century homes and buildings scattered throughout the League City Historic District. The city is bordered by Clear Creek to the north, which flows into Clear Lake and out to Galveston Bay. These scenic bodies of water provide abundant recreation opportunities including sailing, jet skiing, kayaking, fishing, and more. Just minutes away from League City is Space Center Houston—the visitor center of NASA Johnson Space Center. (Sources: League City website and Wikipedia)
