Pecan Park originated with a pecan orchard dating back to the late 1800s. In 1926. the Magnolia Park Land Company began to subdivide lots for sale. The original streets were paved in shell, however, during the 1930s and 1940s, when the majority of the homes in the area were constructed, asphalt paving became widespread. During that time, its close proximity to the Port of Houston made it a popular location for workers in Channel Industries. By 1955, with home styles that were typical middle-class for the time, the area was nearly completely built out. Today, Pecan Park holds over 30 individual subdivisions, including a subdivision named Pecan Park. The entire area is served by the Pecan Park Civic Association.
